WHAT IS A ROOTSTOCK
A rootstock is the lower part of a plant onto which another variety is grafted. The purpose of the rootstock is not to give fruits but to “protect” the main plant that will give fruits, from parasites attacks.
WHAT IT IS USED FOR
A rootstock is used in agriculture because it’s a particularly strong and adaptive species and it can serve multiple purposes such as:

Eggplant crops are subject to terrestrial parasites attacks. In fact, tracheomicotic fungi and nematodes are often the cause of mortality during crop cycle.
SALUTAMU ROOTSTOCK
SALUTAMU is our own special selection of the Solanum Torvum species.
It was the first one to be implemented in our area (South-Eastern Sicily) as it was highly tolerant/resistant to soil parasites: root knot nematodes such as Meloidgyne spp, Fusarium spp,Verticillium spp and radical suberosis.
It is a specific selection that was fine-tuned and adapted to the Mediterranean environment: such feature is a significant advantage compared to other rootstocks, because allows a better productivity response in tune with the growing environment.
The germinability and germination energy features are continuously verified by companies specializing in this field and by further testing carried out on-site by La Perla del Sud.
WHY YOU SHOULD USE SALUTAMU
SALUTAMU is officially registered in the National Registry of Horticultural Varieties.
The field trials of SALUTAMU rootstock, have ensured the absolute tolerance/resistance to any kind of parasites, even on soil heavily infested with nematodes and tracheomicotic fungi. The growing cycle is carried on without loss of plants and with an average production far above the ordinary.
SALUTAMU does not cause any alteration in the organoleptic features of the fruits and it actually improves them.
These characteristics of the SALUTAMU rootstock ensure health conditions of the root system of the crop, which is able to complete the growing cycle without any particular defense measures.
La Perla del Sud boasts over a decade of experience, both into the production and commercialization of SALUTAMU, and in farming. This allows us to evaluate every issue arising in the nursery and growing phases.
