Dried oregano really enriches the Mediterranean cuisine, being one of the most used aromatic herbs. Born as a hardy and wild plant, it spread out from Greece to all the Mediterranean countries until reaching Sicily, which today is the largest producer in Italy. Our oregano grows wild and luxuriant in the heart of the Monti Iblei next to limestones, and is harvested and dried by hand in May and June, when it has matured to perfection. The wild oregano of the Monti Iblei is rich in minerals and essential oils, with well known antiseptic, antiviral and digestive properties. Its own authentic, intense and stimulating scent pervades the Sicilian countryside all the way to its tables, where it is used in countless ways. Its own inflorescences give in fact a distinctive aroma to meat, fish, cheese, sauces, salads, soups and pizza.
